Jeff Long
Jeff Long, The 411:
Born and raised in New Glasgow Nova Scotia (Jan 24/77 to be exact), Jeff grew up stopping pucks with several award winning teams in The PCMHA. In the summer he won a lot of trophies as a Provincial and Atlantic Junior Tennis champ which took him to the Nationals in 91 in Saskatoon. He won a couple of matches before being destroyed by one of the top ranked junior players in the country, an event which still scars him.
Music was Jeff’s passion in his later teen years: after a few guitar lessons Jeff was off and rockin’ with his band Coping. They started playing "the dances" around high schools in Pictou County and it wasn't long before the acclaim was enough for Jeff to think he could become a rock star. While that didn't happen, he did get an opportunity to tour with Juno nominated and fellow Pictou County rockers Sandbox as their Guitarist back in ‘98. (Interesting fact - the other guitar player was Mike Smith! [Bubbles of Trailer Park Boys] The two were friends for awhile but Jeff hasn't seen Bubbles since he moved to Bathurst.)
Jeff was also involved in a sketch comedy show back in the day called 5 at the door. The show ended in ‘98 after two seasons on the local cable channel, but with the release of the show on DVD last year a website was launched but since has been taken down because of lack of finances.
In 2003 Coping were nominated for rock artist of the year at the ECMA'S: they lost, and broke up two months later. In September of that year, Jeff’s life took a dramatic turn - after graduating from The Atlantic Media Institute in Halifax, he was hired as an announcer at CKBC Bathurst. In January 2004 the station became MAX 104.9. (Interesting fact #2 - Jeff remains the only original MAX announcer still with the station today!) Jeff fell in love with a beautiful and feisty little red head named Jenna, and after wooing her for a while she agreed to marry Jeff - probably out of pity, but that's OK with Jeff. On Sept 30 2006, Jeff's life took another turn for the better with the birth of his adorable baby daughter Keira Mary Long.
Jeff is a huge Habs fan despite the constant struggle of yelling at the TV every time they lose. If there was someone he would like to meet, it would definitely be Richard Kline [Larry from Three’s Company] whom Jeff describes as a comedic genius. He claims to have coined the phrase 'better late than never' but there is some uncertainty on that one. Since Jeff figures there are not many "new" good rock bands anymore his current favorites are still the same favorites he had in 1996: U2, Oasis, Tom Petty, R.E.M. and The Beatles just to name a few.
